But I Don’t Want Cake

I’m really starting to consider what it means for my life if we quit sugar forever. Obviously we’ll come in contact with some every now and then when we’re out because it’s almost impossible not to. Tyler and I are really thinking we won’t have any around the house though, and I’ll keep cooking and exploring life without it. My biggest question and reservation right now is, “What if I don’t want cake on my birthday?” I know it sounds silly, but it’s a legitimate concern. For my whole entire life, all 28.5 years, I’ve had some type of cake

DIY Sandwiches – The Not Wedding Charlotte

Next week, Tyler and I are doing The Not Wedding in Charlotte. Tyler has been working on getting LaCross Photography off the ground in the last year. While he absolutely loves doing family and wedding photos for friends, his only advertising has been word of mouth. This has worked thus far, but we decided it was time to kick it up a notch. The Not Wedding is a bridal show in the form of a wedding. The couple is already married and just renewing their vows. It’s an innovative way to do a bridal show because it allows the brides

Homeschool Summer Fun in Charlotte

Even though homeschool is out for summer, I still have E on some form of schedule for three reasons. Prevents boredom Keeps him brushed up on math & reading Gets us outdoors & doing more stuff Because Ethan’s only sibling is 4 months old, it’s pretty easy to understand why he could get bored easily. Baby Mah-tin is plenty of fun, but not the ideal playmate for an almost 10-year-old. I’ve tried to make the schedule work with Martin’s naps, which can be pretty difficult, but I find we can get out and about once a day. Some days we

Let’s Be Honest – Sugar Addict

I’m addicted to sugar. We don’t regularly keep cookies or ice cream in our house. I’ve been known to throw away a mostly good box of Oreos, and we regularly throw out Halloween, Easter, and Christmas candy because we never finish it all. We even have tried to cut back on sugar by only have dessert one night a week. Yet, we’re still addicted. I get that crash and burn feeling later in the afternoon and I typically feel like I need something a little sweet after each meal. Tyler and I will hide sweets and than pull them out

Talking About Us – Anniversary Conversation

If any of you know Tyler, you know he’s a talker. When we’re alone, he allows me to talk a lot more than you’d imagine, and we rarely run out of things to talk about. Our anniversary is today (Happy 3 Years, Lovey!), and we’re headed out for a beach vacation date. While we always have things to discuss, most of the time we focus on schedules and kids and often forget to talk about our marriage, which is one of the essentials elements in sticking it out as a team. I got these questions last year from my friend,

Weekly Photos – Tyler’s Birthday Edition

We’ve just completed Tyler’s birthday week. We celebrated a few weeks ago with a brewery trip to Hickory, Asheville, and Brevard, NC. This week we celebrated with friends and family. We had a small dessert sampling, including Your Grandma’s Banana Pudding, breakfast from Fourth Ward Bread Co., and a celebration with both Tyler’s family and my family. Ethan and I had a flag pole put up in front of our house, which Tyler has been wanting for the longest time. Martin even got to visit the beach for the first time. More and more every day, I realize how thankful

Childress Vineyards Lunch Date

Entrance A few weeks ago, my sister, Jen, and I decided to meet for lunch. Then a few days ago she suggested we meet at a winery/vineyard for lunch. Why, of course! Of course we can meet at a winery for lunch on Thursday. What a perfect idea. This is one of the great things about living in Charlotte while your sister lives down the road in Winston-Salem. In between are numerous wineries, but up until now, we hadn’t taken advantage of them. And it was quite appropriate that we chose Childress Vineyards because today is the Coke 600 [NASCAR

Meet Puppy Walt

Walt and Me Currently, I’m sitting on my couch, typing away on my iPad, taking small sips of my coffee and putting the mug down without a sound. A few minutes ago it took me 7 minutes to start a load of laundry because I tried to adapt to my kitty’s ability to move with silent stealth. Why all of this quiet? The puppy is asleep. If he was awake, there is no way I would be writing this blog. In fact, I’ve even considered crating him for an hour or so to get some work done around the house.

Let’s Be Honest – Adventure Shoes

Adventure Shoes Imagine me, 10-years-old, sitting on the bed at my grandmother’s house, surrounded by all of her old gadgets, books, and nostalgia from many trips abroad. I’m writing, speculating, pretending I’m on an adventure. Of course, in my imagination I’m twenty or twenty-three, independent but not old. I imagine the storyline of some book or two I’ve been reading. I am free to travel whenever, wherever I want. I am intelligent and can solve mysteries and quarries between people. My adventure begins in the woods, in a setting much like the woods in this music video. I spend most of
