craigslist – To buy or not?

My First craigslist Purchase I’m a craigslist stalker. I will look at pets and houses for rent for hours, but when it comes to actually purchasing anything or contacting anyone, I have always stopped. Until this holiday season. I decided, after browsing bikes all during June for Tyler’s birthday, to actually go through with buying him a road bike for Christmas this year. I enlisted the help of our cyclist pastor at church, and he willingly helped me wade through the waves of road bikes available on craigslist. After checking on Tyler’s inseam size and such, we emailed back and

Christmas Seasonings

Image from Fresh Faces, UC Berkeley My Christmas season has been hampered with by Flu Type A. So for the last few days, I’ve been lying in bed, sleeping, complaining about my back hurting, and watching Harry Potter Movies. My condition was made much better by Tamiflu, but my wallet hated parting with the money for it (insurance doesn’t cover it!). As I understand it, I’m one among many people who have been sick the last week. I think the whole city of Charlotte has been hit with it the last few days. I have a great sympathy for anyone

Adult Conversations

When your sister calls and says, “Hey. I’m in Target looking for that snowflake doormat. Where is it located?” You reply, “It’s in the non-Christmas doormat section in home goods. It’s purple with snowflakes.” She says a few moments later, “Oh. Does it have red, green, and white snowflakes on it?” You say, “Yes. Lots of them.” She says, “Ok. I found it. I’ve got to go buy this and run back to work. I’ll talk to you later.” Then you hang up, knowing you’re getting exactly what you asked her for this Christmas.

Just a little comedic extra for your day…

Thanks, Faith! I had to post this. I just love how tween girls are thwarted in trying to be cool. Don’t look at the comments — It’s the 21st century, people! How students feel about grades. Facebook Stress I would be absolutely terrified. This is so not funny, but kind of funny!

Lincoln – The Aftermath

We went and saw Lincoln, the movie, yesterday afternoon (Many thanks to the Vaughn family for hosting E while we were at the show). I’d heard mixed comments on the movie. Mostly everyone said it was fantastic and pretty historically accurate. However, most of my friends had not seen the movie, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I loved it. The lighting was spectacular and Spielberg’s use of windows, mirrors, and shrouded images were epic throughout. I reminded me of Jacques Lacan’s idea of the “Mirror Stage,” where we see images of ourselves outside of our inner beings in

The iPod Mini That Could

The Infamous and Survivor iPod. Yesterday, I decided to go to Starbucks to grade papers for my English 111 class. I wanted to take some music so I could block out all the conversations I inevitably listen to when in a large crowd of people engaged in relationship and community. I really love going to Starbucks or a coffee shop for this reason. However, at this particular moment, I needed peace and music to grade. So I went on a search for E’s iPod mini for some help. But I couldn’t find it in his room. I couldn’t find it

Weekend and a few links.

Happy Weekend, everyone! We’ve got a busy one this go-round. Tyler’s parents are visiting, Tyler’s mother and I are attending the Uptown Women’s Conference, and I’m helping throw a baby shower on Sunday. We definitely will not run out of things to do. I am so excited to post on the shower decor and food next week. Be prepared for Mustaches. On an afternoon where I’m cleaning like whoa, I’d rather be sitting here. or maybe here(but inside). These are happy thoughts, beautiful places. I’m just thankful for the pictures. Two-Toned Brown Nails. Favorite Fall Craft of the Week – Thanks for the tip,

Life in the Mundane – Oblivious Moments

Today, I went to the laundromat for the first time in my whole life. I went, not because our washer and dryer are broken, but because they are too small. A few months ago, E had his second stomach virus ever and threw up on his comforter. I spot cleaned it, I promise. But I also believed it needed a good dousing and deep cleaning. So like any good mother, I took it off his bed and shoved it into the deep recesses of his little-boy room, where it’s remained until today. Don’t worry, E has not been suffering through
