Happy Weekend!!

Home It’s Friday and one of my favorite days of the week. I get to hang out with 10th graders for the first half of the work day and college students for the rest. This week has been eventful. I had two friends have cutie babies yesterday. Welcome to the world Liam Seamus and Ruby Mae! We’re attending the wedding of two beautiful friends from church this weekend. Tyler, Ethan, and I are so excited to witness their union. I came across this blog post today about body image and eating disorders. It’s good stuff. Speaking as someone who has

Geeking Out For A Moment

Rivendell I want to move to Middle Earth. I want to see the sights as they appear in Tolkien’s books and Peter Jackson’s movies. I know, I know. I could just visit New Zealand. However, I want the real Middle Earth experience. I’d like to live in the real imaginative world Tolkien created, at least for a little while. Middle Earth Map I know this sounds absolutely nerdy. That is fine with me. We’ve just been Middle Earthing it at our house recently. Tyler is reading The Hobbit in preparation for the movie release. This may be one of the first

Today…

Today, I will have lunch with my sister. Today, I will drive 160 miles, at least. Today, I will wish I was making this soup. Today, I will probably eat this instead. Today, I will return the last three Harry Potter books to my sister. *tear* Today, I will shower my niece with cute clothing from Target, which I couldn’t resist buying. Today, I will read about a woman’s wisdom and pray with three friends. Today, I will run four miles. Today, I will dream of having a baby boy, so he can wear one of these. Today, I will

Baby Sh-owl-er for Katey and James – Owl Cake

Two weeks ago, some Florence people convened at The Meade House for a night to celebrate Katey and James McCoy and their baby Liam, due to join us all here on earth in just a few weeks. I was honored to be helping these lovely ladies give the shower. We’re all long-time friends from a seemingly different era of Florence history, and it was great to get back and visit with everyone. Hostesses(L to R): Taiter, Sage, Whitney, Me We went with an owl theme for the shower, because Katey and James are decorating the nursery in earthy tones and

PURE Taqueria

PURE menu on their stylish laminate tables If you ever happen to find yourself in downtown Matthews, NC, a beautiful little suburb of Charlotte, make sure to check out PURE Taqueria. I had been longing to go to downtown Matthews on a date since I made a stop at the Dilworth Coffee near the heart of downtown. So Tyler and I headed to Matthews a few Saturdays ago for lunch. Surprise upon surprises, PURE was offering brunch on Saturday afternoon, so I made sure to take advantage of it by ordering the Sopes de Desayuno – fried eggs on handmade

Let’s Be Honest – Sibling Fights

Tyler and I have sibling fights. No, we do not live in West Virginia, and we weren’t related previous to our marriage. Tyler is an older brother, and I am a younger sister. So our less than necessary bickering always tends to remind me of an argument I would see between older and younger siblings. Let me give you an example. Scene 1: Tyler and Melissa open up a brand new puzzle Melissa has brought home from the store. They decide it’s a wonderful thing to do one Friday night after Ethan has gone to bed. Immediately, they start sorting

Old Friends

It’s hard to imagine that E already has “old friends.” But he definitely has a few who have known him for ages or ages, or whatever you call most of your 8-year-old life. Wyatt has been E’s friend since 2008, when both families lived in Florence. We actually all moved away from Florence in the same month of 2009. Sept. 2012 (E – 8, Wyatt – 6) Oct. 2007 (E – 3, Wyatt – Almost 2) Wyatt came over this past Sunday for an afternoon play date. We haven’t let them do this for a while, what with our schedules

Fun Friday

Image from RoadFly.com Is it just me, or do Honda Fits have more fun? Every time I see a Fit, there are at least two people inside, windows down, singing, dancing, and partying. For real. Half of the time, I see them when I’m running in the middle of the day, so they could just be college students taking a drive in between classes. In which case, it means it’s a cheap car to own with good gas milage, and college parents buy them. However, I’ve resigned myself to thinking it’s just the most fun car to own. One cute
