Valentine’s Day – Seasons and Immense Joy

I’ve felt like we have been sinking for the past few weeks. My heart has been gripped in a vice of fear and despair. Peace has abandoned me for the moment. I can be happy for just a brief second, and you probably have thought I’m fine, if you’re my friend in real life. I haven’t been. Don’t be deceived; I’m good at keeping up a front. It’s been tumultuous. I won’t go in to it because it’s not beneficial, and my journal has been drained and badgered with all of it. Instead, I’m practicing love and thankfulness. I’m thinking

Talking About Us – Anniversary Conversation

If any of you know Tyler, you know he’s a talker. When we’re alone, he allows me to talk a lot more than you’d imagine, and we rarely run out of things to talk about. Our anniversary is today (Happy 3 Years, Lovey!), and we’re headed out for a beach vacation date. While we always have things to discuss, most of the time we focus on schedules and kids and often forget to talk about our marriage, which is one of the essentials elements in sticking it out as a team. I got these questions last year from my friend,

Weekly Photos – Tyler’s Birthday Edition

We’ve just completed Tyler’s birthday week. We celebrated a few weeks ago with a brewery trip to Hickory, Asheville, and Brevard, NC. This week we celebrated with friends and family. We had a small dessert sampling, including Your Grandma’s Banana Pudding, breakfast from Fourth Ward Bread Co., and a celebration with both Tyler’s family and my family. Ethan and I had a flag pole put up in front of our house, which Tyler has been wanting for the longest time. Martin even got to visit the beach for the first time. More and more every day, I realize how thankful

Back to the Blogosphere

Welcome to Four Grain Bread! It’s been over a year since I have been in the blogosphere. I had planned on starting back up again last summer with this whole new blog and look, but I got pregnant and lazy it just didn’t happen. So here we are, a whole year later, and a lot has changed. I just finished my first year as a homeschool-mom. I will have to post more on that later because I never dreamed, well maybe a nightmare here or there, that I would be a homeschooler. I love it, and E just finished 3rd

Let’s Be Honest – Sibling Fights

Tyler and I have sibling fights. No, we do not live in West Virginia, and we weren’t related previous to our marriage. Tyler is an older brother, and I am a younger sister. So our less than necessary bickering always tends to remind me of an argument I would see between older and younger siblings. Let me give you an example. Scene 1: Tyler and Melissa open up a brand new puzzle Melissa has brought home from the store. They decide it’s a wonderful thing to do one Friday night after Ethan has gone to bed. Immediately, they start sorting

My Amazing Hunk O’burnin Man Love.

Earlier today: I’m in the middle of class, “working” while my students are helping each other revise their papers. I’ve already made my rounds for questions, so I figured, “Why not? I’ll just check out the good ole Facebook.”  One of my friends posted this cute-o picture from this past weekend, so I decided to comment on it. No big deal. Of course, I go to mention how Tyler and I have our own picture taken in that same spot and what happens? My iPad auto correct changes “Tyler” to “My amazing hunk o’burnin man love.” Yes, I’d been foiled.
